Synopsis

The episode starts off with Connor, Amaya, and Greg reviewing the rules of “Capture the Flag” in Connor’s sketchpad. Greg is impressed by his drawings, then when Amaya performs a trick using his pen, he tries it out, but fails and complains that he can’t do anything cool. Connor and Amaya assure him that he can do things that they can’t, winning “Capture the Flag” as one possibility. The three head over to the park to play, although they see a Night Ninja flag perched on top of HQ.

That night, Catboy and Owlette spot the ninjas at the school with their Cat Ears and Owl Eyes. Wanting to have a cool power like them, Gekko makes up a new one called Super Gekko Sense, which helps him sense nearby danger through his tail. He claims it helped him sense Night Ninja at the school and is confident that it can also help catch him.

After the PJ Masks arrive at the school, Night Ninja reveals that he’s playing a game of “Capture the Flag” with them as the opponents to prove he is the best player. If he wins, he’ll make the school into his own ninja night school and keep HQ. If the team wins, the ninjas will leave. Catboy and Owlette object, but Gekko accepts.

In HQ, the team plans their strategy: Owlette stays to watch over their flag with her Owl Eyes while Catboy goes over to the school to listen for Night Ninja with his Cat Ears. Gekko believes his Super Gekko Sense will also help them win the game; he claims Night Ninja is inside the school planning how to get their flag while leaving his own flag unprotected. Although saying earlier that he can sense nearby danger, he adds on that he can sense it everywhere. Catboy and Owlette aren’t sure about this power, especially when Gekko has other powers he can use, so they go to their intended positions once the game begins.

A couple of Ninjalinos are seen guarding the school. Just when Gekko thinks that Night Ninja is not outside as he sneaks over to get the flag, he appears and sticky splats him. Catboy speeds over to help him out, telling him that his Super Gekko Sense was wrong, though he responds that it was partially right since Night Ninja was at the school. The boys then follow him and a couple of Ninjalinos to HQ so they can help Owlette while the rest of the ninjas guard the flag.

Catboy and Gekko head into the woods until they stop at a spot where the latter apparently senses where Night Ninja’s located. Before Catboy can tell him that he doesn’t have Super Gekko Sense, sticky splats rain down. Convinced that he’s right, Gekko leads Catboy over to where he senses Night Ninja is apparently heading next. Before they return after finding out he was wrong again, the ninjas appear and sticky splat the Gekko-Mobile, Night Ninja having decided to use the made up Super Gekko Sense against them.

With no time to unstick the vehicle, despite his Super Gekko Sense being wrong the past couple of times, Gekko takes off by himself to search for Night Ninja by the lake, feeling that he can sneak up behind HQ from there, where he is soon captured. Initially ecstatic that his power is real, he becomes upset that Night Ninja tricked him into thinking that by knowing he was here and setting up a trap. Meanwhile, Catboy returns to HQ and warns Owlette what happened. After spotting Gekko while guarding their flag, they go over to free him.

Unfortunately, now that the team’s flag is unprotected, the ninjas run over to grab it. Gekko apologizes for leading Catboy and Owlette from HQ to save him and making up his Super Gekko Sense. With their assurance, he finally realizes that he’s already amazing with his cool powers such as his Super Gekko Camouflage and Super Lizard Grip. Since the Gekko-Mobile’s out of commission, the team decides to take another vehicle to beat Night Ninja to the school. Gekko can then use his own powers to defeat him.

Everyone later arrives at the school, Catboy and Owlette in the Owl-Glider feigning their defeat. Before Night Ninja can claim his victory, Gekko in his Super Gekko Camouflage sneaks over to grab the flags. The team returns to HQ where he then plants them on top. Night Ninja angrily blames his Ninjalinos for their defeat, leaving the PJ Masks to proclaim their signature victory phrase.

The next day, after playing “Capture the Flag” against Connor and Amaya two times, Greg comes out victorious, proving their prediction that he’ll be the best at the game.

Moral/Lesson

  • You shouldn't be ashamed if you're not good at something.
  • Use your own skills.

Trivia

  • This is the first time a PJ Masks member (Gekko) makes up his own superpower.
    • The made up superpower, Super Gekko Sense, is a direct reference to Spider-Man's Spidey-Sense power.
  • Night Ninja blames his Ninjalinos for losing the game of "Capture the Flag." This is another instance of pushing them around, which may or may not lead up to the plot of "Owlette and the Owletteenies." This has not been confirmed, however.
  • The PJ Masks' usual catchphrase "PJ Masks all shout hooray! 'cause in the night, we saved the day!" is cleverly changed to "PJ Masks, we played it cool, and in the night, we saved our school!" for this episode.
  • It is revealed that Connor is skilled at drawing, and Amaya can easily balance small objects. Greg's strong suit is stealth and staying hidden, just like in his nighttime alter ego, Gekko.
  • This is the fifth time a nighttime villain tries to take over the PJ Masks Headquarters.
  • This is the second time HQ is seen in the daytime.
  • This is the first and only episode to have Christophe Ollivier Nobori as the storyboard artist.
