Synopsis

The episode starts off with the PJ Masks defeating Night Ninja after a brief chase. Before the team can shout out their signature victory phrase, Armadylan comes in, ready to help out, though he realizes that they’ve already done it without him. Upset that he can’t be a hero if they don’t ask for his help, he walks away, until he hears singing. It is coming from Octobella, who was spying on him and the team earlier. They both introduce themselves to each other, and taking note of Armadylan’s super strength, she states it is perfect for her plan.

The next day, Connor, Amaya, and Greg feel bad for Armadylan. They know how he wants to be a hero, though they also know that they don’t always need his help. They suddenly come across some cars flipped over. Later that night, the PJ Picture Player reveals that Armadylan is responsible for this. It also reveals that he was in contact with Octobella last night, meaning that she had something to do with this.

The PJ Masks meet up with Armadylan in the town, who is cleaning up the mess he made after playing around. They inquire him about Octobella and warn him to be careful around her as her actions tell a different story, even if she seems nice. Armadylan just responds that they are friends and finds it ironic that they don’t ask him to help them, yet they tell him who to be friends with. The team does not push him any further, but tell him again to be careful.

The PJ Masks take off, and Armadylan meets up with Octobella again when he hears her singing. He shares what the team said about her, to which she replies that it is sad that they tell him what to do but not to join them. She claims they don’t see him as a hero. She gives him an offer to help out with her underwater garden, to which he accepts. Octobella uses her magic to help Armadylan breathe underwater, and they both swim down, to which PJ Robot notices and updates the PJ Masks of this.

Armadylan and Octobella soon reach the underwater crystal garden. Percival warns her that the PJ Masks are here, and she pulls Armadylan into her lair, commanding him to polish up her crystals. Meanwhile, the PJ Masks reach the bottom of the moat, though they can’t see either of the two anywhere, not even with Owlette’s Owl Eyes since the roots are too thick. Catboy manages to use his Cat Ears, and he overhears Armadylan singing and cleaning up Octobella’s crystals while she "supervises" the help. He also overhears that she’s using Armadylan for something bad.

The PJ Masks call out to Armadylan to warn him, though Octobella convinces him that they’re just doing so because they think he can’t manage on his own, much to his anger. She tells him that she now needs a special ornamental stone, and he offers to get it. Percival leads Armadylan to the crystal, while Octobella confronts the PJ Masks as they arrive at the garden. They try to go after Armadylan when she tells them what he’s doing, but she stops them with her Crystal Current.

Soon, Armadylan arrives at a stone where the crystal is located. Using his Thunder Thump, he retrieves the crystal, and despite the PJ Masks’ warning, he gives it to Octobella, who then uses the crystal on the team. They freeze and shrink into garden gnomes, revealing that her plan was to capture the PJ Masks so she can decorate her garden. Now that she has what she needs, she whirlpools him back up to the surface. Armadylan’s underwater glow also fades away, which means he can’t go back underwater to save the team.

Armadylan races into HQ, where PJ Robot scolds him. He apologizes to the team, saying that this whole situation is all his fault, all because he wanted to feel useful like a real hero, only to get tricked. The PJ Masks forgive him and tell him that just because they don’t always ask for his help doesn’t mean they think less of him. There are some times when they don’t need it, and other times when they do need it, especially now.

Uplifted by these words, Armadylan and PJ Robot head back underwater in the Gekko-Mobile. Since the vehicle can’t get past the vines, PJ Robot explains that he can swim through, especially since he has a plan. Armadylan gets upset that he can’t help out again, but he cheers up and agrees with PJ Robot that it doesn’t mean he’s not important. Therefore, he offers to keep the vehicle running so the heroes can quickly escape.

PJ Robot sneaks into the crystal garden while Octobella is decorating. He plays opera music to break the crystal, and the PJ Masks turn back to normal. They leave the crystal garden, only for Octobella to stop them with her sonic song. Fortunately, before she can catch them, Armadylan swings the Gekko-Mobile’s tail, creating a current that pushes her away. Everyone makes their escape, while Octobella vows to get them next time. Now back on land, the PJ Masks thank PJ Robot and Armadylan for saving them. Armadylan has all the practice he needs to be an underwater hero, and the team assures him that they’ll definitely need his help in the future.

Moral/Lesson

  • Do not be fooled by the way people look or act.
  • Just because people don't ask for your help, doesn't mean you can't help them.

Trivia

  • This episode, along with "Sploshy Splash," is the first episode to air in 2021.
  • The episode's full storyboard was revealed on YouTube (alongside those of "Romeo's Space Machine" and "Legend of the Wolfy Bone") and Dropbox.
  • Armadylan meets Octobella and Percival for the first time.
  • Armadylan drives the Gekko-Mobile for the second time.
    • The first instance in which he drives it was "Wheels of a Hero." However, this has actually happened offscreen.
  • Octobella sings for the first time.
  • Two new nicknames are introduced for characters:
    • Tentacle Girl for Octobella
    • Big Lumbering Wart-Hog for Armadylan (via the storyboard)
  • This is the first time that Christian Campbell voices Armadylan, replacing Avery Esteves.
  • Some scenes and effects from the storyboard were scrapped in the actual episode. These include:
    • The love effect, which was first used in "Easter Wolfies."
    • Octobella's Octo-Ink.
  • This is the thirteenth time the PJ Masks say their successful mission phrase in unison.

Errors

  • The leaked storyboard misspells the episode title "Octobella Gardner" instead of "Octobella's Garden."
