Synopsis
The episode begins with Connor, Amaya, and Greg at the playground. Greg finds a cat collar at the end of the slide with its name tag reading “Catboy.” PJ Robot scans it on the PJ Picture Player for any clues that night; there is something in the park, though he can’t tell what it is. Once the PJ Masks arrive at the location, Catboy jumps out of the Cat-Car and speeds off with the collar to find what he assumes to be a cat in distress. He uses his Cat Ears to follow its sounds until he reaches a tree and climbs up to rescue it. However, there is only a voice box making those sounds.
It turns out to be a trap set up by Romeo, who zaps Catboy into a cat with a new invention. Robot lures him in a cat crate using a wind-up mouse toy, places the cat collar on him, and plays with him using a feather. Romeo identifies the invention to be his Animal-Metamorpho Ray, which can transform anyone into any animal he likes. In addition to allowing Robot to have a pet, who promises to take great care of it, he is planning to create his own zoo, then take over the world afterwards. He proceeds to zap Owlette and Gekko as well for his zoo collection, although they run off and hide.
As Romeo searches the park, the team retreats to the Cat-Car. Gekko comes out to retrieve Catboy, though Romeo spots him; Owlette quickly grabs him, and they hide behind a bush. Meanwhile, Catboy attempts to escape when Robot opens the crate to play with him. However, the sound and sight of cat treats lures him back, despite trying to resist as he is beginning to act like a cat. Owlette and Gekko watch in confusion as he eats one, also confused himself, then contently purrs as he is given chin rubs, even as he says he’s got a plan.
The team is forced to hide again after catching Romeo’s attention while assuring Catboy about finding a way to turn him back to normal. This concerns Robot because he knows that they always defeat him. He announces that he’s going to destroy the Animal-Metamorpho Ray so he can keep Catboy as a cat forever. Hearing this news, Owlette and Gekko get inside the Cat-Car and escape before they could get zapped themselves. They stop by their neighborhood to get a laser pointer pen from Owlette’s room so they can lure Catboy to them.
Back at the park, Romeo goes after the team himself after a fight with Robot, who refuses to do what he says. Catboy is also about to leave until Robot offers him another cat treat. This time, he resists for the sake of protecting his friends and everyone else from Romeo. He jumps away from Robot and hides, then, when Romeo is about to zap his friends into animals after they return, he pounces on him, causing him to drop his invention. Unfortunately, Robot finds him, scaring him off, and grabs it.
As Romeo tries to get his ray back, Owlette uses her laser pointer on Catboy to chase the red dot. Romeo trips on him when he stops in front of him and crashes into Robot, dropping the invention. She has Catboy spin the two villains around, then has him leading Robot on a chase to get him away from it. Gekko obtains it through use of his camouflage power and demands Romeo to tell him where the reverse switch is; otherwise, he’ll turn him into an animal.
Romeo complies. Gekko reverses the Animal Ray, and Owlette leads Catboy closer to him. It takes a couple attempts to zap him, especially with Robot shielding him from the lasers, but after he catches him before he tries escaping again and pets him, he is finally zapped back to normal. Robot is upset, but Catboy thanks him for taking good care of him and tells him that he’ll do great in taking care of a real pet.
Defeated, the villains leave as Gekko destroys the Animal-Metamorpho Ray. Romeo scolds Robot for his actions, to which he apologizes for, and asks him if he can have a real pet. Romeo replies that he’ll think about it. Catboy jokes about having any cat treats back at HQ, and the PJ Masks proclaim their signature victory phrase.
