The Totem Animals are magical animals that serve as guardians to children. They have the ability to grant magical powers, transforming them into Noctambules-masques. They are minor protagonists of Les Pyjamasques picture book series. The three main totem animals are Yahto the Tiger (a.k.a. Totem Cat), Oolgee the Owl (Totem Owl) and Chu'a the lizard (Totem Lizard). Official descriptionSince the dawn of time, it has been said that every child has an animal guardian. Guided by the moon, these extraordinary animals would descend from the stars at midnight and chase away nightmares. When a totem animal forms a bond with a child, that bond lasts for life. The totem animal could visit the dreams of children. They would sing magical melodies that would bring them happiness and give them power. PersonalitiesThe Totem Animals are portrayed as benevolent and protective of the children they have formed bonds with, choosing to always remain with them, even in adulthood. AbilitiesAs mentioned above, they are able to visit children in their dreams and ward off nightmares thanks to the magical songs they sing. They can also grant them magical powers that are based on that animal's abilities. They also have the ability to speak. In their first appearance, they initially didn't have the ability to bestow costumes, but were able to protect Les Pyjamasques by using attacks based on the animal they are characterized to look like.
